users (BSD)

DESCRIPTION

The external users command displays a list of users currently logged in to the system. The output is compacted onto a single line.

The format of the users command follows.

     users

RELATED FILES

The users command reads user information from the /etc/utmp file.

APPLICATIONS

The users command is useful when you just want to find out which users are logged in at the current time.

TYPICAL OPERATION

In this activity you use the users command to list all current users of the system. Begin at the shell prompt.

1.  Type users and press Return. You see a single line of users listed on your terminal. The output line may wrap onto the next line if there are many users logged on the system.
2.  Turn to Module 61 to continue the learning sequence.
